@kemmer:

>Isn’t the value you get for the reviews you
>use yourself enough incentive to leave a few
>reviews?

Yes, in a really fair system everyone would leave a few reviews and then be able to access thousands of them.

But that's not the way Angie's list works. The vast majority of people leave no reviews at all. A few people leave many, many reviews. (That was me.)

In a not-for-profit system, with the type of participation you describe, everything would be cool and I would have no beef.

But it is a for-profit syste, with just a few people doing all the contributing, and Angie raking in the rewards. That's my complaint, and I think it is valid.

If you volunteered to help out at your kid's school, and they took advantage of you by having you work 30 weekends of the year, then they had a volunteer thank-you dinner, and every parent was invited, regardless of whether they contributed anything or not, you might see some inequity in it.

Isn't the value you get for the reviews you use yourself enough incentive to leave a few reviews? When someone asks you directions on the street, do you keep walking since there's nothing in it for you? Someone needs to learn the golden rule!

That looks like a great resource. Are they still charging? Doesn't look like it right now.
