Hi Hassan,

The Mediagate looks a lot like the Tvisto, but I haven't actually laid hands on one. The fact that it has an Ethernet port makes it a big improvement in my book.

As to whether it is better to buy with drive installed, I guess that depends on how much the savings is worth to you. You can probably save a little money doing it yourself, byt maybe not too much.

Hey Mark,
First of all, great blog! I really do like this article about the Tvisto. I've been planning on buying the Mediagate MG-35 from a vendor who is willing to sell it to me for $260 which includes a $300 gb HDD. Is that a deal or not? Also, do you think it would be a wise idea to buy the Mediagate MG-35, or the Tvisto, i'm more or less confused on that part. Do you also think it would be a better idea to just buy the hard drive separately and then install it with the player, or buy it combined. If you could just email me with what you think, that be awesome. Thanks!

vish, i'm certainly not an expert on this device.. but there were a few restrictions on the partition type. Since it looks like the device is not able to read your disk, are you sure you formatted it in one of the three supported file types?

Also, I'm not entirely clear on their 500 MB disk size limit, and what the implications of that are. Do you have a smaller disk lying around that you can try?

formatted my 500gb HD, primary part (jumper setting master)i created 4 folders as specified in the tvisto book. added few files (pictures in pictures, movies in movies, etc) i see the HD and its contents on the computer. however when i connect it to the TV it brings up the 4 folder screen (movies, pictures, etc) but no files found error comes up when i actually go into the folders. i have tried deleting the folders, empting the recycle bin, readding the folders and have always used safely remove hardware and powered off/on reseated cables etc etc, any suggestions???? thanks in advance.

Hi Christian,

No, I don't think it will play those files directly, however the process of converting them to DivX format is not too arduous, and once you have them in that format you're fine.

There are also some commercial products that will do the same thing for a few bucks with way fewer steps.
