Nothing wrong with your proposal, but that’s pretty much what we’re doing right now, and it’s not working so well. Even if you don’t care a whit for the record companies, most people think artists should get paid for their work, and under the current system, they are not getting paid.

Giving the US Government distribution rights to all music and then taxing everyone for its maintenance is a “modest” proposal?

How about this.
1. The government does nothing.
2. The recording industry begins to offer its services at a price that can compete with what will always be an ever present “for free” black market of their product.
3. The honest people obtain the content legally.
4. The dishonest obtain the content illegally.

Sheesh, the Secretary of Digital Audio????

This is a fabulous idea, but what would it cost the US government to run such an opperation? I have asked my friends at My Intellectual Property Rights, and they have some other thoughts and plans for the Copyright infringement problem(s) in the US.

Interesting article but it would take loads of man hours just to keep everything under control, i like your idea though :)
