Well, it is a bit unclear.

VS 2008 MSDN says that OleLoadPicturePath was available on Win95 and WinNT 4, but MSFN Online states that minimum supported system is Win2000.

Checking the export list of Win95&NT olepro32.dll would solve the puzzle, but I don't have any old system handy. I think it is
more likely that you are right and VS 2008 MSDN is wrong.

@cordel:

I don't believe OleLoadPicturePath was available for Windows XP or Windows 95 at the time this article was written. It's hard to tell for sure though, so I could be wrong.

"Microsoft makes reading easier with the simple OleLoadPicture function, but loses points for not reading from standard files"

Not quite true, MS provides OleLoadPicturePath function for reading from file/URL.

i still think it's a shame that they charge $199 for this library, but it is probably well worth the money to anyone who needs it, particularly for commercial products.

I noticed on Intel's web site that you can get academic pricing on the library, which brings the price down to $50, but unfortunately that is available to faculty only, and they make it pretty tough to cheat by requiring a school purchase order. :-(

Regarding the IJG library, they now provide patched version of IJG's sources in their IPP JPEG sample. This code is faster than original IJG but not so fast as Intel JPEG codec.
